Name: Eric Ambriz, Dog Groomer (Fluent in Spanish)
Years grooming: I’ve been working in grooming salons for about nine years and grooming for the last six.
Why I became a groomer: I started working as a part-time bather while I was going to school. I started watching the groomers and eventually picked it up, finding that I had a real knack for it. I just can’t imagine doing anything else now.
What I like most about grooming: I love dogs, of course. But there’s nothing routine about grooming – every day brings something different.
Name: Andrea Boyce, Dog Groomer
Years grooming: I have been in the grooming industry for over seven years. Most recently, I’ve worked as a grooming manager at a pet resort in the southwest suburbs.
Why I became a groomer: Like a lot of groomers, I started as a bather. I really liked it and decided to attend grooming school. Since graduation, I’ve worked for a few grooming salons.
What I like most about grooming: I’ve also got a degree in marketing, but always seem to end up going back to work with dogs. It might be fate or just where I’m meant to be right now.
Name: Debra Vogler, Cat Groomer
Years grooming: I have 17 years of experience grooming both dogs and cats. However, my specialty is CATS!
Why I became a groomer: My Dad bred Yorkies. When he went on vacation once, he asked me to take care of them. While he was gone, I’ve gave them all baths. And I think that’s how it started for me.
What do you like about grooming: I have a great passion for animals and grooming. I love being a professional groomer and feel lucky to be working with animals.
Name: Molly Finnigan, Office Manager
Why I work at The Grooming Gallery: Working with animals – dogs specifically – is a passion of mine. It’s something I love doing and will always want to do.
My experience: I was only fourteen when I started working with animals as a camp counselor in-training at the Cayuga Nature Center. I also worked for SPCA last summer (2010).
Name: Ingrid Kallai, Owner & Chief Cleaning Officer (Fluent in Hungarian)
Why I decided to purchase The Grooming Gallery: It was honestly an accident. While I was looking for some real estate to open a doggie day care and boarding facility, I ran across The Grooming Gallery for sale. I thought that it would be a great way for me to establish myself in the pet services market in Chicago. I took over the business on January 1st and haven’t looked back since.
My experience: I’ve been working in a corporate environment for more years than I’d care to admit. I’ve been longing to break-out and do something on my own and for myself for some time. Always having been drawn to animal care, I thought it would be fun to open a business that caters to dogs and cats. In a different life, I think that I likely would have been a vet!
